“Ohio voters need a champion like Kathleen Clyde to ensure that our right to vote is respected and protected”

COLUMBUS, OH – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 1199 and their 30,000 members from across Ohio announced their endorsement of state Rep. Kathleen Clyde (D-Kent) in her campaign for Ohio Secretary of State.

“Kathleen Clyde dedicated her professional life to being an advocate for the right to vote for all Ohioans,” said Anthony Caldwell, director of public affairs for SEIU District 1199. “At a time when voting rights have been under attack, Ohio voters need a champion like Kathleen Clyde to ensure that our right to vote is respected and protected.”

SEIU District 1199 WV/KY/OH is the healthcare and social service union for West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. District 1199 represents nearly 30,000 healthcare, social service, and public-sector workers. The union is part of the Service Employees International Union, an organization of 2 million members united by their belief in the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide, and dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families and to creating a more just and humane society.

“The members and leadership of SEIU 1199 are on the front lines every day fighting for better wages, health care and equality for all Ohio workers. The work they do is vital and I am proud to have earned their endorsement,” said Rep. Clyde. “As Secretary of State, I look forward to continuing this fight to protect the rights of workers and making sure their voices are heard.”

Rep. Clyde announced her candidacy for Ohio Secretary of State in May 2017. While serving in the legislature and throughout her career, she has been a strong advocate for redistricting reform and voting rights. Clyde has also fought against Senate Bill 5 and other attacks on working families. She currently represents the 75th Ohio House district in Portage County.
